If you are running FreeBSD over the latest Intel Nehalem cpu’s, you might find the boot process to have a minute long delay. Try settings the following value in /boot/device.hints:
hint.atkbdc.0.disabled=”1″
hint.atkbd.0.disabled=”1″

People moving from Linux to FreeBSD get confused when they need to determine ram/memory usage. Although there is no equivalent command, there is a nice perl script located at http://people.freebsd.org/~rse/dist/freebsd-memory. Just download and run the perl script, and it gives a formatted output of your memory status. Something like:
# fetch http://people.freebsd.org/~rse/dist/freebsd-memory # perl freebsd-memory
In case you need to mimic the linux command, simply set the execution bit and move it to bin.
# fetch -o /usr/local/bin/free http://people.freebsd.org/~rse/dist/freebsd-memory # chmod +x /usr/local/bin/free
You should now be able to use “free” command without any problems from anywhere within your system.

I was recently on a business trip to Jaipur. Didn’t have much time, so clicked these photos from inside a moving car.

Just went for small trip to Hazaribag, Jharkhand. Had a pretty interesting journey as the main road we were supposed to travel on had a broken bridge just 10 kms outside the main town. The detour was of 40 kms through another highway. Thankfully we got a little adventurous and decided to take a smaller road which went through a non-descript village, crossing a small river without a bridge. All said and done, it was quite an interesting journey after a very long time.
First 5 pics are ones from the river we had to cross to reach Hazaribag. The remaining pics are from the next day behind my house in Hazaribag.
With great hopes, I had reached Targena near Patna Bihar to experience a total solar eclipse. But alas, it was not meant to be. Clouds had covered the entire sky and cleared out only when the eclipse was in its last stages. Anyway, it was still a surreal experience having darkness engulf for couple of minutes.
The crowds gathered was huge, first time I saw such a huge and enthusiastic crowd assemble for a non-political event in Bihar. I was fortunate enough to have a vantage position to click these photos.
